Andrew C. Olesnycky is a Partner at SeidenFreed LLC, where he leads the firm’s criminal defense and domestic violence practice. He is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Criminal Trial Attorney, a distinction held by fewer than 1% of attorneys in the state, and he is one of very few attorneys in private practice who has also served as a domestic violence supervisor within a county prosecutor’s office.
Andrew represents clients on both sides of domestic violence matters — individuals seeking Temporary and Final Restraining Orders, and those accused of domestic violence in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. He also maintains an active criminal defense practice, representing individuals and organizations facing investigation or prosecution in New Jersey’s federal, state, and municipal courts, with experience spanning fraud, drug distribution, weapons and violent offenses, and white-collar crime.
Prior to joining SeidenFreed, Andrew spent nearly a decade in private criminal defense practice at Stahl Gasiorowski Criminal Defense Lawyers in Westfield, New Jersey, where he represented clients in federal and state cases involving multi-million-dollar fraud conspiracies, money laundering, complex drug distribution conspiracies, and domestic violence allegations. Before entering private practice, Andrew served for nearly five years as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, where he was promoted to supervise the office’s Domestic Violence Unit. In that role, Andrew bore ultimate responsibility for the investigation and prosecution of every domestic violence complaint filed in Union County, trained new assistant prosecutors, coordinated rearming decisions for police officers accused of domestic violence, and administered a 24-hour domestic violence hotline for law enforcement.
Andrew served as a domestic violence law instructor at the John H. Stamler Police Academy, where he has lectured new recruits and experienced investigators throughout New Jersey on domestic violence law. He has served as a moderator for a statewide domestic violence symposium and has attended domestic violence–specific training at state and national conferences. Andrew has also served on the District VC (West Essex) Attorney Ethics Panel and is appointed by the District of New Jersey to its Criminal Justice Act Panel of Private Attorneys.
Andrew’s trials and prosecutions have been covered by national and regional media outlets, including the New York Times, CBS This Morning, NBC4 New York, the Associated Press, the Boston Globe, NJ.com, the Star-Ledger, and ESPN. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for Criminal Defense: General Practice, and was named to the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40 for criminal defense.
A cum laude graduate of Rutgers Law School in Newark, Andrew served as a law clerk to the Honorable Rudy B. Coleman (retired) in the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court, and as an intern for the Honorable Joseph A. Greenaway in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the New Jersey State Bar Association.
Andrew is admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey and before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
